Drummer Land Richards grew up in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and later moved to Houston, Texas. He was born into a musical family—his father being co-writer of the famous hit “When A Man Loves A Woman”—and started performing on drums at age seven, moving on to the local club circuit by age twelve. He studied music formally at Howard University. Over his long career in the music industry, Richards has performed with some of the best-known acts in the world Including Gerald Albright, Ashford and Simpson, Atushi/Exile, Patti Austin, Phillip Bailey, George Benson, Angela Bofil, Michael Bolton,Peabo Bryson, Bobby Caldwell, Cab Calloway, Larry Carlton, Norman Conners, Randy Crawford, Natalie Cole, Placido Domingo, Will Downing, Earth Wind And Fire, Al Jarreau, Stanley Turrentine and dozens more.
Land has been part of the Hiroshima ‘Family’ for several decades, and joined the band in 2018. We call him the ‘super drummer.’ He is also is a great cook.
